System update: Perimenopause has been installed
I received a letter informing me that I'm perimenopausal.
Not a phone call. Not a conversation. A letter.
I'd been to the breast pain clinic, where everything was thankfully fine. A few weeks later, a letter arrived thanking me for attending, saying how lovely it had been to meet me, and informing me that I was perimenopausal.
How lovely to meet you, too. By the way, your hormones are doing something weird.
It's a funny thing, being told something about your own body in a letter. As if someone has updated your medical records, ticked a box and sent you the patch notes after the event.
•• New features: unpredictable hormones, unexpected symptoms and the general feeling that your body has started making decisions without consulting you.
•• Known issues: still under investigation.
•• User feedback: would have appreciated a conversation.
